Sacramento River Trip

RIVER ROUTE:
The Sacramento River from Redding to Bend (the river is Class I to I+).
Saturday:  from Redding to Balls Ferry (about 22 miles).  Lunch break at Anderson Park.
Sunday:  from Balls Ferry to Bend (about 20 miles).


PUT-IN & SHUTTLE INFO:
SATURDAY morning:  put in at the boat ramp on Bonnyview off the Churn Creek exit south of Redding.  Meet at parking lot of La Quinta Inn at 8:30 am or at the put in at 9:00 am.  Shuttle at 9:30 am; boats in water and under way by 10:30 am.  
        Location of Bonnyview boat launch area:  From Hwy. 5, take the Bechelli Lane/Churn Creek exit.  Head west on the exit (away from the Super 8 Motel).  Cross over the river on the bridge.  Just past the bridge is a left turn lane into the Bonnyview Boat Ramp area.  The left turn is opposite the River Bend Estates rock gate entrance, which will be on your right.
SUNDAY morning:  meet at Balls Ferry ­ same time schedule as Saturday.
We usually manage to do the final take-out by around 3:00 p.m. Sunday.
SUNDAY afternoon:  Take out at Bend Bridge


COST:
Free, except for motel and meals.  Those who are not members of Western Waters Canoe Club or ACA (American Canoe Association) must pay a $5 per person liability insurance fee and sign a waiver (under 18 must have parent sign waiver).


BRING:
You should have in the boat with you a change of clothes in a dry bag, lunch and snacks, and plenty of liquids.  Donšt forget sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc.


ACCOMMODATIONS:
Many of us will go up on Friday, October 6.  Norm and Karen will stay at the La Quinta Inn, 2180 Hilltop Dr. in Redding (reservations 530-221-8200 or 1-800-NU-ROOMS; room cost includes continental breakfast).  We also suggest Motel 6 ­ one location on Hilltop Dr. (530-221-1800) and another at Twin View exit north of Cypress exit (530-246-4470).
